David R “Butch” Smith

David R “Butch” Smith passed under care of VETS Hospice in Florida on April 2, 2021.  Born April 2, 1944, in Alabama, New York he was the son of Irving and Mary Vaughn Smith Sr.

Butch formerly lived in Akron, New York and then moved to Florida with his family.  He then moved to Alaska where he lived for 20 some years, returning to Florida to spend the last days with his children and grandchildren.

He served four years in the Army.  He was an independent owner/operator Truck Driver all of his life, even hauling watermelons and hay sometimes.  His hobbies included fishing in Alaska.

Survived by a dear friend Ruth of Alaska, daughter Cena (Terry) Dorth and a son David (Michelle) Smith and two granddaughters, Isabella and Destiny, all of Palm Bay Florida.  Also survived by his brother Gerald (Jake) of Akron, and sisters, Rose (Marshall) Criswell of Lockport and Carol Cummings of Akron, and nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by brothers Joseph (Joe) Smith, Irving Jr. (Junie), Frank (Buck), Thomas (Tom), and sisters Beatrice (Bea) Wodrich, Shirley Kanehl, and Linda Blosser.

Cremation and remains to be in Alaska donations to veterans.
