Deadline for non-public school transportation requests extended to April 15
Due to the closure of schools pursuant to the Executive Order(s) issued by the Governor for the COVID-19 crisis and recognizing such requests need to be incorporated into a school district’s budget, the New York State Education Department has directed all public school districts to accept all parental requests for transportation to charter and non-public schools submitted on or before April 15, 2020. The Department deems such Executive Order(s) be a reasonable excuse for a delay under Ed. Law 3635.
Therefore, requests for non-public school transportation for the 2020-21 school year must be made to the Akron Central School District Office by April 15, 2020.
Akron Central School will transport students during the 2020-21 school year to non-public schools which are located within the statutory fifteen mile limit. To qualify for the transportation, the following requirements must be met:
Requests must be filed in the District Office, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, on or before April 15, 2020.
Families moving into the district after April 15 must file a request within 30 days of residence.
The distance must be measured from the student’s residence along the nearest available route to the school.
