Douglas Arthur Dailey
Douglas Arthur Dailey, 53 of Amherst, New York passed away peacefully and comfortably January 23, 2022 at the Roswell Cancer Institute surrounded by his family.
Doug is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gina Dailey, and two daughters Amanda Kaitlyn Dailey and Abigail Gwendolyn Dailey.
Doug was born in Newfane, NY on March 24, 1968 to Marion A. Andruschat and Douglas J. Dailey. His family including his older brother, James Dailey lived in Lockport, NY for a time and moved to North Tonawanda, NY. Doug attended Ohio Street Elementary School followed by the accelerated learning program at Meadow St. School in North Tonawanda. During his elementary school years he spent time as a Cub Scout, Webelo, and Boy Scout. He spent summers at scout camp and in the Adirondacks Mountains and Silver Lake.
Doug swam with his brother at Zwicker’s Aquatic Club traveling to Canada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for meets. During his high school years at Reszel Junior High and North Tonawanda Senior high school he played saxophone in band, swam, and ran cross-country and track on the varsity teams and graduated in 1986.
Upon high school graduation, Doug attended the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, RI for a year followed by time at Niagara Community College and SUNY Brockport where he earned a BS in Physical Education and his teaching certificate.
In 1996 he married Gina and his family began with his two daughters. Doug briefly taught at Cardinal O’Hara and even worked at BJ’s. In 2001, Doug started his IT career at Akron Central School District. A job he loved. He enjoyed mentoring students on the AV club and being the lights, sounds, and AV “guy” for the school theatre productions and girls Irish dance events.
His favorite places included quiet family time on his front porch or in his backyard, out on Lake Erie fishing for walleye, down in the Niagara gorge fishing for sheepshead, salmon, bass and trout, hunting down in Andover in “his” ground blind, going to the Outer Banks, NC and taking in the seashore and light houses. He was always busy going here, there and everywhere. He believed in giving his girls experiences that would help them become who they are today.
The family was present Saturday at the Amigone Funeral Home, INC. 5200 Sheridan Drive (corner of Hopkins) where services followed at 1 p.m.
