DWI arrest made in Town of Newstead after near collision with Deputy

In a statement Monday morning, Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported the arrest of 30-year-old Niagara Falls woman for DWI-Drugs on June 13 at approximately 11:09 p.m. in the Town of Newstead.

A Deputy was traveling along Main Street in the Town of Newstead when an oncoming vehicle crossed over the center lines and nearly struck the patrol vehicle.  After swerving into the grass to avoid a collision, the Deputy initiated a traffic stop.

The drive failed multiple standard field sobriety tests, and a drug recognition expert responded to perform an evaluation.  The DRE determined that the operator was under the influence of drugs, and she was arrested.

The subject is charged with misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle impaired by drugs and DWAI – the influence of drug/alcohol.  She was also cited for a vehicle and traffic law violation for an unsafe lane change.

The defendant was processed and released to a sober third party.
