Elton Ground, Jr
It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Elton Ground, Jr. – Hoiy su dah gyh (He’s by the water), better known as “Jr”, who left us on October 24, 2023. Born in Batavia, New York, on September 1, 1960, Elton was a man of many talents and passions. A retired handyman, he was not just a man who worked on homes, he also worked on hearts, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Elton’s love for life was infectious. As a social butterfly, he was the life of every party, always ready to bring joy and laughter into any room. His unique interests in dinosaurs and Harley Davidsons were a testament to his eclectic spirit. He was a proud member of the Snipe Clan, a community that he held close to his heart.
However, what mattered most to Elton was his family and friends. He was a doting father to his ten children: YaVaun Ground, Kerwin (Kasey) Smith, Elton (Kaya) Ground III, YaLaunda (Bob) Ground, Charisse (Steve) Ground, Krysten Ground, Cody “Dude” Ground, Brittany Ground, Elijah “Grouch” Ground, and Naomi “Nay” Ground; an adored grandfather to his thirty-three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as a loving brother to his sisters, Wanda Gay Ground, Lorna “Scamp” Thompson, and Lora “Midgie” Ground. Elton was predeceased by his father, Elton Sr., his mother, Lana Johns, and his siblings Alan Ground, Lori “Pongie” Ground, Bryan “Duckie” Ground, and Wendy “Snail” Ground.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and joy that will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
Friends and relatives gathered at the family residence, 7747 Sand Hill Road, Basom, NY from Thursday, October 26, 2023 until the time of Service on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. A Long House Service followed at 2:00 p.m.
