Entrepreneurial-spirited retired educators open boutique on Main Street
Friends and Village Treasures LLC owners Bridget Gillman and Stacy Harrington Quinlan opened the doors of their new boutique to eager shoppers on Saturday, January 13. The unique shop at 77 Main Street is the newest shop in the Village of Akron offering local and destination shoppers a reason to visit.
Bridget and Stacy hope you will step inside to discover the variety of high-quality, affordable and unique items. Village Treasures LLC has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that includes a blend of affordable and stylish women’s new and gently used clothing for all ages, as well as hand-painted glassware, homemade candles, hand-crafted porcelain ornaments, Pomifera skincare, jewelry, hand painted Bills sneakers and clothing, and home décor items.
Bridget, originally from a small town in the southern tier, now lives in Williamsville with her husband George and three children. Bridget was an elementary and middle school teacher, recently retiring after 36 years of service. She has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and she has run a small jewelry business for the last 15 years. Her unique business plan included providing personal shopping experiences for her customers by holding custom “in home” sales.
Stacy, originally from Akron, also lives in Williamsville. She has three daughters who while growing up, visited Akron many times a year to attend festivals, to visit the parks, and of course get a Tony’s Pizza or a Guy’s sub. Stacy’s family have been long-time residents and business owners in Akron. Spencer Harrington, (grandfathers) Leonard ”Putt” Harrington and Leonard Daniels, and her father David “Putt” Harrington all owned various businesses within the community.
She recently retired after 32 years of teaching, two of those years in Akron and 30 years in Williamsville. Stacy is also a lease holder at Leisurewood, and in her spare time she is a lifeguard at Leisurewood and the YMCA in Williamsville. Stacy and her mom, Kathy Harrington, also ran a small home business, providing customers with “in-home” shopping experiences by combining Southern Living at Home decor and products with Kathy’s original “Walk In The Woods” floral designs.
Bridget and Stacy met while teaching in Williamsville, and had always thought that in their retirement, they would want to open a boutique. The idea began when Stacy brought Bridget and some friends to visit Main Street Akron during the summer months and again during the “Light Up Akron” event. The quaint and inviting atmosphere of the village inspired them, and they wanted to be part of the growth happening in the community,
Like other small villages, East Aurora and Williamsville, Bridget and Stacy see Akron becoming another shopping, cultural and interesting destination to visit.
Village Treasures LLC hopes to create a convenient shopping experience by providing trendy fashion, products for the home, seasonal items and gifts. The shop is a collaboration of individual vendors who offer a potpourri of specialized products.
The shop will be open Thursdays to Sundays for the remainder of January, and shopping hours will increase in February and the following months. This quaint shop is also planning to hold some special shopping events throughout the year, and they look forward to getting to know members of the Akron community.
Centrally located, Bridget and Stacy are excited for Village Treasures to participate and support the many events that happen throughout the year in Russell Park, Main Street, and throughout the village. They plan to be open during the Thursday Night car shows, Friday night community band concerts, and Sunday West Shore Farmers markets to name a few, as well as feature additional products and promotions during all Akron Chamber of Commerce Main Street events/
