Ethel Matthies

Ethel Matthies, passed away on August 24, 2020. She was born in Lancaster, New York on April 18, 1923 to the late Clarence and Louise (Grambo) Maurer.

Ethel was a 1941 graduate of Lancaster High School and worked many different jobs throughout her life. During World War II she worked in the engineering department of Curtiss Wright Corp. She worked in the accounting department for National Tea and was a secretary for Town Line Church for many years.

Ethel also worked as a domestic helper in different homes as a care provider for the elderly and the incapacitated. Most fulfilling for her was being a mother and homemaker for her family and her close companionship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

She is survived by two children Lance Matthies and Lisa Smith; nine grandchildren, Dale (Kerry) Matthies, Matthew (Melanie) Matthies, Susan (Chad) Rudolph, Jody (Dan) Miles, Kenneth Matthies, Faith (Chris) Milhollen, Cody (Julie) Kegler, Sarah (Edward) Michel and Deanna (Gregory) Rosenberg. Ethel is also survived by ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son, Darel Matthies; siblings, Geraldine Ryder, Howard (Loretta) Maurer, and stepmother, Anna Mallison Maurer.

Friends called on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron where a Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m.. To share memories and condolences with Ethel’s family, please visit rossakron,com,
