Field Hockey team raises awareness of Prostate Cancer Research
As the Akron Varsity Field Hockey team takes to post-season competition on the field today, they will honor the men in their lives and raise awareness about an important cause: Prostate Cancer Research.
They also stand in support of their teammate Averi Monkelbaan as her grandfather has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Tonight, as they play, they invite you to join them in making a difference. At tonight’s semi finals game, you’ll find bookmarks featuring a QR code. By scanning this code, you can donate to the Mike Slive Foundation. Mike Slive, a former SEC commissioner, was not only a pioneer in college sports but also a courageous fighter against prostate cancer, which claimed his life in 2018. His daughter Anna played field hockey at the University of Rochester.
With your generous contributions, we can help the Mike Slive Foundation generate national awareness and fund the scientific breakthroughs that will save lives. One in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and it takes a life every 15 minutes. Additionally, having a father or brother with prostate cancer doubles your risk of developing it.
Semi-Finals against Medina begins November 1 at 5:00 p.m. at Alden.
