Fire Companies working to rescue stranded motorists

The Akron and Newstead Fire Companies are working together with UTV’s to rescue stranded motorists in the Clarence Center Road and Dye Road area.  There are reports of several stranded cars throughout Akron/Newstead.

Newstead Town Supervisor David Cummings reports the Town trucks have plowed the Newstead Fire Hall and Parking lot but are not out on the roads at this time. 

Emergency Manager Dan Kowalik reports that Village plows are off the roads for now.

Several people are using the Newstead Fire Hall and Senior Center as well as the Akron Fire Hall as warming centers.

The Village is still good with power, Kowalik notes, “only had a few services go down, fixed within an hour” The Town has 87 customers without power.

There is a travel ban in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron.
