Grandpa’s Country Store enjoying Akron welcome
Grandpa’s Country Store LLC opened in the Historic Building on Main Street known by some as Sherwood’s Hardware, others by Bag and Barrell, various other businesses, and most recently Main Street Salon.
William Nantka, Jr. who owns the store with his sons Jaime Nantka and Joshua Nantka notes that the community has been welcoming to this newest business in the business district.
While the Nantka’s are mechanical engineers working in their chosen field during the day, they came together to keep the legacy of their father and grandfather with started with the Newfane Country Store at Gordie Harpers in Newfane and at the Olcott Trading Post.
The family rebranded and moved the store to Akron following the passing of William Nantka, Sr. The Senior Nantka loved Akron and wanted to locate here but could not find anything open that fit his vision, so he opened a store in the Clarence Hollow and kept a presence in Newfane in recent years.
As the Nantka family began to work on the rebranding and new location they found the historic building across from Russell Park was open and met their needs. “Akron fits my father’s philosophy, locate in a small town where people are actively involved in the community,” William Nantka, Jr. said. We love the community and the support we are receiving is outstanding.”
Nantka noted that Grandpa’s Country Store is focused on helping bring business to all merchants in the community, not just theirs. They also make it a priority to hire from the community.
The store is filled with a variety of items, Amish sweets and savory items, specialty cheese, novelties, confections, clothing, camping items, housewares, and decorations. They are always adding items so each visit offers the potential for new discoveries.
Grandpa’s Country Store is Veteran owned and offers discounts to military veterans.
They are open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
