Services set for Hilton and Darthea Hill
Hilton and Darthea (Jonathan) Hill, both born on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, passed away several years ago but will be re-buried at the Western New York Military Cemetery in Pembroke on October 8.
Hilton and Darthea Hill are being remembered as loving parents, siblings, an aunt and uncle, and friends. They entered their eternal reward in 2014 and 2019 respectively.
Both went to Akron High School. Hilton graduated and went into the Marine Corps. He served overseas in Viet Nam and Japan. After a career in the military, he retired from the Marine Corps and went to serve in the US Post Office until he retired there after 20+ years of service.
Darthea was a homemaker but also worked in several capacities including a bakery where she enjoyed working for many years.
Both Hilton and Darthea loved to sing, visit with friends, serving in their home church, and gathering with Hilton’s platoon out of Paris Island Boot Camp for regular reunions.
Hilton & Darthea are survived by their two sons Darryl and Joel (Colleen). Darryl’s daughter Jessica (deceased) son A.J, and Joel and Colleen’s children Daniel & Benjamin. Darthea’s mother and father Hazel and Foster Jonathan and her brother Parker Jonathan preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Dawn Lanich and sister-in-law Carol Jonathan, along with multiple nephews and nieces and cousins. Hilton was preceded in death by his mother and father Ethel and Joseph Hill, and brother Robert Hill, and sister Betty Reuben. He is survived by sister-in-law Kathy Hill, many nephews and nieces and several cousins.
Services will be held at the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church (565 Bloomingdale Road, Basom, NY) on Friday, October 8 at 11 a.m. A luncheon at the church will follow. A military ceremony and burial will be held at 2pm at the Western New York Military Cemetery in Corfu (1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY).
