Horror Comedy filming underway in Akron

A Horror Comedy, co-written by the award-winning writing duo of Tyler Cheman and Akron native Kristen Skeet and directed by Skeet, is currently being filmed in Akron and other areas in Western New York from August 4 into September, including Market on Main and the lower level of the Village Hall in early September. “Slasher Days of Summer” is slated for release in March 2024

This film marks the production companies’ sixth project and third feature film, and it is their most ambitious project to date.

The film introduces us to an eclectic group of camp counselors on a mission to re-open the long-abandoned Camp Sack-In, shut down under mysterious circumstances three decades ago. As they gear up for a summer of fun and camaraderie, they soon discover that the past has a way of haunting the present. Unbeknownst to them, malevolent secrets linger within the depths of the woods, and their plans for a cheerful summer quickly transform into a heart-pounding fight for survival.

The film’s antagonist, the ax-wielding Woodsman, seeks ruthless vengeance on anyone who dares to cross his path. As our bumbling protagonists confront the wrath of the Woodsman, they find themselves entangled in a web of terror, hindered by an inept park ranger, the cranky owner of a rival camp, and a formidable beast with little patience for intruders. Will they survive this chilling encounter, or will the Woodsman claim them one by one?

“Slasher Days of Summer” pays tribute to beloved cult-classic summer slasher films such as “Friday the 13th,” while adding the humorous flair of “Scary Movie” and the suspenseful thrill of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Only 10 days into their Indiegogo fundraising campaign, the production team was thrilled to announce that they had already surpassed their initial goal of $7,500, and they were moving toward their first stretch goal of $8,500.

This vital funding will support key aspects of the production, including paying and feeding their talented cast and crew, securing filming and lighting equipment, production insurance, location rentals, wardrobe, and special effects makeup.

“Any and all contributions are appreciated. There are acting and production perks, and also local business perks, particularly for businesses on Main Street in Akron. We’re filming inside and outside of Market on Main on Sunday, September 10th and will have an opportunity to shoot other businesses at that time, if so desired,” Skeet notes.
