Jean Elizabeth Gay
Jean Elizabeth Gay, born on June 12, 1938 in Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at her home in Akron, New York. Jean was a loving mother, a dedicated volunteer, and an active member of her community. She was the beloved widow of her late husband, Vernon Gay, whom she married on June 10, 1961.
Jean spent over 20 years as an executive secretary, notably retiring from Perry’s Ice Cream Company, and was a dynamic and driven professional, admired for her dedication and commitment. She was equally passionate about her hobbies, which included a profound love for the ocean. Jean also devoted several years as a Blood Mobile volunteer, demonstrating her selflessness and desire to help others. She was very active for years with Alden Little League and acted as President of her Baptist Church Youth Group, further exemplifying her commitment to service and community.
Loving mother of JoAnn (late Phillip) Soro, Jeffrey (Ellen) Gay, Kevin Gay, Kelly (Wendy) Gay and Robert Gay; cherished grandmother of Stephanie (Adam) Hilarie, Megan and Charles (Jessica) Soro, Scott (Christina), Keith, Kevin, Derek, Ashley, and Allyson Gay; proud great-grandmother of Cameron, Collin, Arthur, Linus, and Matilda. She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Louise Bliss and her brother Floyd Jr.
A Memorial Gathering in honor of Jean will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday January 30 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001.
