John B. Routledge

John B. Routledge, better known as Jack, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and four-legged friends on April 25, 2022. He was born in Buffalo, New York on June 7, 1932 to the late Philip and Naomi (Barrett) Routledge.

Jack graduated from Hamburg High School in 1950 and then served his country honorably in the United States Navy onboard the USS Randolph. He and Dorothy Scanlon were married on September 20, 1958 and built their family home in Akron, NY where they raised their two children and shared 63 years together in a loving marriage.

Jack was the owner of Du-All Construction, an underground excavation company, where employees were like family. Jack embraced the local community and was an active member of the Akron Lion’s Club, American Legion LL Tillman Post 900, and the VFW Post #3180.

He was one of the founding members of the Manhattan Club of Akron and hosted numerous parties at the backyard bar he built, the USS Routledge. Jack was well known for his story and joke- telling, was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan. He especially loved his Black Lab companions, most recently, Duke.

Beloved husband of Dorothy (Scanlon) Routledge for 63 years; loving father of Mary (Dale) Christensen, and John (Kristin) Routledge, Jr.; cherished grandfather of Karlie Routledge, Thomas (Kelsie) Routledge, and Robert (Olivia) Routledge; proud great- grandfather of Avianna Routledge; also survived by his dear sister, Naomi (Lloyd) Strickland, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. A Celebration of Jack’s life will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion LL Tillman Post 900, 9 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY.
