Kentucky Derby Dash, successfully raises funds for community projects
The spirit of the Kentucky Derby was alive and well on the first Saturday in May at the Gathering Barn at Akron Acres, where the Akron Lady Lions Club hosted their annual Kentucky Derby Dash. The event, which drew a lively crowd, was a tremendous success—raising significant funds for local projects and bringing the community together for a night of fun, music, and philanthropy.
Formed in 2019, the Akron Lady Lions Club worked tirelessly to plan and organize the event. Guests enjoyed live music throughout the evening, setting a festive tone as party goers gathered to watch a live broadcast of the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby—the fastest two minutes in sports. Although the favorite, Journalism, did not win the race, attendees had a blast trying their luck at picking the winning horse.
In addition to the Derby excitement, the evening featured games of chance, a basket auction, and a variety of delicious food and beverages. The event was made possible through the generous support of many local businesses, who contributed sponsorships, baskets, and donations.
The funds raised will directly benefit a range of community projects, including the Akron Falls Park Rock Garden, White Whiskers Dog Rescue, Akron High School scholarships, the American Red Cross blood drive, the Cornerstone Manor, and the Town of Newstead Senior Center.
The Akron Lady Lions Club extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, donated, or volunteered including members of the Akron varsity field hockey team, and a special thank you to the Akron Bugle for helping to raise both funds and awareness for the club’s mission. Together, the community continues to make Akron a better place for all.
