Local authorities monitoring Extreme Heat conditions, cooling shelter available

The Akron/Newstead Emergency Management team, Village of Akron and Town of Newstead, and local fire companies are monitoring and preparing to assist where needed in the extreme heat conditions expected this week.

Noting that Heat related deaths and illnesses are preventable, Erie County has a number of resources https://www3.erie.gov/health/health/extreme-heat to help area residents.

The Newstead Public Library is open as a cooling shelter during their regular hours: Monday from 12 noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  They are closed on Wednesday Juneteenth.
