Lucille Helen Miller
Lucille Helen Miller of Ithaca, aged 100, passed away peacefully at Hospicare on March 17, 2021. Lucille was born November 14, 1920 in Akron, New York, the eldest daughter of nine children of Phillip and Edna Nice.
Lucy graduated from Akron High School and attended Buffalo State College. During WWII she enjoyed working at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo.
Lucille’s faith was the hallmark of her life and found its expression in always caring for the needs of those around her. She was a member of the Forest Home Church for many years and in more recent decades a member of Bethel Grove Bible Church.
She was passionate about her family and her gardens. She had a green thumb and created amazing flower and vegetable gardens. She loved trees of all kinds and planted many different species on her property. She canned and froze many fresh vegetables and fruits. She was a wonderful cook, baker, hostess and shared her bounty with family and friends. Lucille kept an immaculate home and was a faithful friend to many; she was always available to lend help or moral support when needed. In her later years when she became less active, she took great pleasure in watching birds and wildlife in her backyard. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Lucille was married to Ward Miller for 40 years until his passing in 1987. She is survived by daughters Laura (Mike), and Dawn (Bob) and sons Daren and Jay (Deborah), 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert Nice and sisters Velma Markwardt (Everett) and Janice Bruning, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family is forever grateful to Traci DelRosario who lovingly helped care for Lucille the past year and a half. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospicare of Ithaca or St.Judes. Perkins Funeral home of Dryden, NY is assisting the family. Due to Covid restrictions no memorial service will be held at this time.
