Mary Mast Penninger
Mary Mast Penninger, 90, of the Croft Community passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Cadence in Huntersville.
Daughter of the late Daniel and Susan Mast, Mary was born October 15, 1934, in Clarence, NY at the family farm. She was a graduate of Akron High School, where she excelled in baseball. She was an avid New York Yankees fan. She loved sports, but especially watching her grandchildren in their various endeavors!
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Penninger, and siblings, Alice Hendry, Ruth Crane, and Mildred Graff. She is survived by her beloved children, Ray (Cathy) Barrows of Blowing Rock, NC and David (Tammy) Barrows of Kannapolis, NC; stepchildren, Dorothy (Mike) Johnson of Huntersville, NC and Donald Penninger Jr. of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Blair (Paco) Payne of TX, Carter (James) Calvert of Charlotte, NC, Adam (Peyton) Barrows of Concord, NC; Ryan (Fabi) Barrows of Concord, NC, Katie Barrows of Raleigh, NC, and Brandon Johnson of Huntersville, NC and Chris (Jessica) Johnson of Davidson, NC; great grandchildren, Mason, Lloyd, Graham, Hayes, Ivy, Jones, and Jack; and siblings, Arlene Wolak of NY, Doris Brand of OH, Carol Webster of NY, and Paul (Candy) Mast of SC.
The graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 1:30 PM at Independence Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Huntersville with Chris Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall for a time of reception and visitation. Mary was a longtime member and dedicated volunteer at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cadence of Huntersville for their kindness and unwavering dedication to Mary during the last year. Also, a special thank you to VIA health partners for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Independence Hill Baptist Church or VIA health partners hospice in Charlotte.
