Mary Mecca

Mary Mecca passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021. She was born in Rochester, New York on June 2, 1926 to the late Joseph and Rose (Anzelone) Giordano.

Mary was married to the late Joseph Mecca for over 59 years. Together they raised three wonderful children and built a lifetime of memories.  She was a member of the St. Teresa’s Women’s Guild and the Akron Fire Company’s Women’s Auxiliary. Mary will mostly be remembered as the original owner/operator of the iconic Mary’s Good and Plenty Restaurant on Main Street in Akron. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and cross stitching but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Beloved mother of Dr. Roger (Sharon) Mecca, Rosemary (Gary) Baehr and Sally (Jim) Whitbeck; cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sandy Giordano. She was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Giordano and sister, Jean Rodriguez.

Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 3 to 7 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa’s Church, 5771 Buell Street Akron, New York (please assemble at church).
