Melissa Beth Sim

Melissa Beth Sim, of Williamsville, New York passed away suddenly on January 25, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.  Born May 27, 1975, she was the youngest child of Janet (nee Bugenhagen) and Charles (Charlie) Rosenberg of Akron, New York.

Melissa graduated from Akron Central High School in 1993 where she roamed the halls with her bff Stephanie and their big 80s hair and their 80s band t-shirts.  Twenty-seven years later, Melissa was standing on Stephanie’s doorstep, during a time of great personal loss, with bags full of her delicious home cooked meals.  The countless stories, exactly like this one, now pouring in through social media show this is the type of person Melissa was: Loving, giving, empathetic, and kind.

She went on to graduate from NCC following high school.

She was loving wife of Joe for 19 years, and loving mother to Charles and Michael.

Melissa never missed one of her “baseball star” son, Charlie’s games.  Overbearing summer heat or bitter Buffalo cold, she was always at the baseball diamond cheering her beloved son on and of course bragging about him on Facebook.  It didn’t hurt that baseball was her favorite sport.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at holidays, happily doing all the cooking.  Melissa was an incredible cook and a raging potty mouth and will be loved and remembered as both.  (If she were reading this tribute right now, she would roll her eyes and let her favorite four-letter word fly.)  The home-cooked meals she made, and often shared on Facebook, were drool-inducing.  Anyone who saw the pictures was instantly jealous of whomever it was who got to eat them.

Melissa loved helping out at her best friend’s donut shop and spent hours there with Jan, who Melissa just happened to also call “Mom.”  The delicious cookies and pies they baked together are a staple of so many homes and businesses during the holiday season, and the countless hours Melissa and Jan shared there together will always be some of the most cherished.

She and bestie Betsy enjoyed so many adventures together over the years since meeting at Bath & Body Works at Eastern Hills Mall in 1996.  Crafting at the cat café, picking flowers, and walking llamas! How appropriate that, in what would be their last outing together, Betsy and Melissa wound up shopping at Eastern Hills Bath & Body Works store.  Melissa is, and always will be, a part of Betsy’s heart.

Melissa loved animals, especially her dog Bella and cats, Cheddar, Jack Jack, and Doodles.

She loved all flowers, with sunflowers her favorites, and summer always meant trips to the sunflower fields.

Melissa is beloved wife of Joseph M. Sim; loving mother of Michael and Charles Sim, cherished daughter of Charles and Janet Rosenberg, dear sister of Amy Gow.  She  is also survived by her nephew Byron and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family would very much like everyone to focus on celebrating Melissa’s life rather than focusing on the loss.  They suggest that when you see a sunflower this summer, you remember how much light Melissa brought to the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

The family was present to receive friends on the afternoon and evening of Friday, January 29 at the Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, Inc., 5541 Main Street, Williamsville, where a service was held at 7:30 p.m.
