Newstead and Mutual Aid companies extinguish fire at MGA Research
Newstead Fire Company was assisted by Akron, Clarence, Clarence Center and Clarence Hazmat at the scene of a laboratory fire at MGA Research Corp. 12790 Main Road, Akron on Monday, August 18 at 3:26 p.m.
Also responding to the scene were Twin City Ambulance, Newstead Emergency Services, Newstead Fire Inspector, State Fire and Erie County Fire Inspectors, Erie County Sheriffs and Amherst Fire Alarm office.
No damage was reported to the structure, and $20,000 estimated in damage to contents. There were no injuries.
The facility reported to Amherst Fire Control that there was smoke coming from the battery room. On arrival, Newstead Fire company Assistant Chief Joe Hawes, officer in charge of the incident, reported an audible fire alarm and fire in the battery chamber from an exploded battery. There was also fire in the duct system. The fires were under control at 4:01 p.m. The battery was removed from the building and placed in a Hazmat container and the scene was left with State and Erie County Fire inspectors for further investigation.
Assistant Chief Joe Hawes thanked all of the Mutual Aid Companies and other agencies assisting during the call.
