Newstead Historical Society thanks everyone who participated in their events

The Newstead Historical Society enjoyed another successful 4th of July fundraiser.  We would like to thank everyone who baked a pie or bought a pie. Both were very much appreciated.  The winner of our beautiful Amish made quilt was Anita Ballow.  The second place winner was Dave Meegan and third place went to Patty Keppler.  Congratulations to all our winners!

NHS also wishes to thank everyone who participated in our Bicentennial events that included visiting Dottie Freeman’s Antique Doll collection and the newly acquired NHS Bell Collection Display.  Both were so popular the exhibits were extended by another day.  On July 1st 81 children visited the outside entrance to the Rich-Twinn Octagon House and ‘measured’ themselves on a reproduction of the Clark family growth chart. This was one of many activities taking place on Youth Day.  Both the Rich-Twinn Octagon House and the Knight-Sutton Museum were open extra hours during the Bicentennial Celebration and were happy to welcome many new visitors.  It was certainly a busy and exciting week. Both museums will now resume their regular hours starting this Sunday, July 16th from 1 -3pm.  They will also be open the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month till the end of September.  The Knight-Sutton Museum is also open Wednesdays each week from 10am-1pm.  Please come visit us if you haven’t already!
