Newstead Public Library closed through Monday

The Newstead Public Library closed at 1 p.m. Saturday due to weather conditions. The Library is closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and is expected to reopen for regular hours on Tuesday.

Newstead Public Library hosts puzzle Infinite Possibilities Coach

Newstead Public Library, Main Street, Akron is hosting a three-week series on Saturdays at 11 a.m for those over 18 interested in a “New Year New You!”  The course is presented by Certified Infinite Possibilities Coach Nancy J. Eckerson.

January 27 – Infinite possibilities.  Learn how to design your own POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS and watch as your life lightens up!

February 3 – Neurographica – Boost your joy using free-form art to capture and transform negative thoughts.

February 10 – Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – (Needle-free-Acupuncture)  Feeling angry?  Sad? Frustrated?  Tap your way back to peace of mind and experience new found joy and relief with this ancient tool.

Puzzle Event

All ages are invited to come out for a night of puzzle discussion with local puzzle creator, Doug Geiger, at the Newstead Public Library, Main Street, Akron, NY. This meeting will focus on geocaching puzzles involving the Periodic Table. This program is designed for those who enjoy puzzles and those who find them difficult- both young and old! This event is planned on Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m.

Peace, Love and Yarn

Library of Things

Newstead Public Library, Main Street, Akron, New York lends out of a Library of Things!  All items are free to borrow for seven days.

Library of Things includes Night Sky Backpack – 2 night vision binoculars and constellation book, Metal Detector, Outdoor Projector, and Screen, Lawn Games, STEM kits for children and the Empire Pass which allows free entry to all NY State Parks.

Virtual Programs

Visit Newstead Public Library Facebook Page and Youtube channel for virtual programs and fun.  Weekly episodes of In the Kitchen with Val are uploaded.

Hours and Services

On non-holiday days, Newstead Public Library, Main Street, Akron, is open Monday from 12 noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 12 noon to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  These hours are now year-round hours.

All Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries are now Fine Free!  Overdue fees are no longer charged.  Fees are collected for damaged and lost items.

The library offers free WiFi. This can be very useful to assist patrons with school and work needs.

Library Board Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. The library will be closed Monday January 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Chromebook and Hotspot available to borrow

Newstead Public Library, is now lending a Chromebook along with a hotspot for one week.  Those under 17 do need a parent present for the first checkout to sign a waiver.

Library by Mail Program

As part of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System, Newstead Public Library is offering “Library by Mail” a Free service that brings library materials to the homebound through the mail.  It is available to any Erie County resident who is either temporarily or permanently unable to go to a physical library.  There is a limit of three items to borrow and materials are checked out for 6 weeks and are renewable for another 6 weeks.  For information on getting started call 716-858-7156 or email librarybymailatbuffalolib.org.

Share the love of reading with your child!
