Summer 2025 Programs & Activities
The Town of Newstead Recreation Department offers the following programs for Summer ‘25… AM Fitness & Fun, AM REC/PM REC, After Hours Swim, Field Trip Fridays & Special Events. Highlights for the six weeks of the NRD Summer Recreation Season include the following…
Week #1: Staff Day, Opening Day, Core Value – Commitment, Sport of the Week – Football, and Field Trip Friday – 4th of July Parade “Freedom to be Fit!”
Week #2: Core Value – Fairness, Sport of the Week – Hockey, and Field Trip Friday – Newstead Public Library and Russell Park.
Week #3: Core Value – Honesty, Sport of the Week – Basketball, and Field Trip Friday – Akron Falls Park.
Week #4: Core Value – Passion, Sport of the Week – Clubs/Rackets (Golf & Pickleball/Tennis), and Field Trip Friday – Destroyer Park Golf.
Week #5: Core Value – Respect, Sport of the Week – Baseball/Softball, Special Event – Buffalo Bison’s Game, and Field Trip Friday – Darien Lake Theme Park.
Week #6: Core Value – Service, Sport of the Week – Soccer, Special Events – NRD Olympics,
“Let’s Can Hunger”, and NRD FUN RUN at Vet’s Park to benefit “Make-A-Wish of WNY!”
The last scheduled day for NRD Staff is August 8th… just in time for the start of Fall sports.
In addition, a new program – Sphero Robotics will be hosted on Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm.
There are now more than 200 registrants for AM & PM REC and nearly 800 registrations in all. NRD related information is also available on the Town of Newstead and newsteadrec websites.
Sphero Robotics
This brand-new program will be coordinated by long-time Volunteer Coach Mr. Cayea. It will be held in Su. ’25 on five consecutive evenings in the ACS Middle School Cafeteria. With Google Chromebook in hand, participants will code and operate actual Sphero Robots.

Lifeguard Certification Courses
In preparation for the forthcoming Town of Newstead Summer 2025 Recreation Season…The NRD offered American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training and Certification Courses.
Fourteen individuals participated and twelve earned their LG Certification &/or Re-Certification. Of those, a handful will serve as Lifeguards on the NRD Aquatics Staff this Summer. In the blended learning program, participants completed on-line assignments and real life exercises – (pool training and testing). In accordance with past protocol, certification costs will be reimbursed for individual candidates who gain employment with the NRD this year.

Participants are encouraged to set-up family accounts at any time and may register for Summer 2025 Programs on-line at www.newsteadrec.com or at Newstead Town Hall starting Monday, June 9. For the convenience of on-line registration, a modest processing fee is assessed and invoiced. Please note that there are “caps” – a limited number of openings for the programs, which will be filled on a first-paid, first-serve basis. For any changes to account status, patrons are reminded to contact the Town Clerk’s Office for more timely assistance. Please note: Registrations are not complete until paid and there are no registration refunds.
Registrants/participants must be able to comply with NRD Mission, Values, and Policies. A Discipline Policy and Process is used to monitor and enforce conduct w/logical consequences. These actions are to ensure the safety, fun, and learning of all NRD registrants and participants. General information as well as related policies/procedures are accessible on the Town website.
NRD Leadership Team
and Support Staff
The 2025 Summer Recreation Programs will be led by the NRD Leadership Team (LT) of Director Dan Roland, Assistant Director Bo Izydorczak, and Program Coordinators/Co-Coordinators and Assistant Coordinators Madison Brege, Madison Esmond, Sophia Jones, Olivia McClaine, Iva Meyers, and Emerson Polkowski. The NRD Leadership Team is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating (POLE) respective programs. The LT establishes, monitors, and enforces the NRD Mission, Values, Policies, and standards for all NRD Staff. Program Attendants, including Lifeguards/Swim Instructors, are to support program needs and serve youth participants. Attendants joining the NRD Team are: Liliana Bellinger, Brodie Carlson, Joe Farinacci, Megan Gates, Aron Gehl, Henry Kish, Willow Kumro, Brayden Lamont, Brock Lamont, Whitley Koopman, Logan Meyers, Jackson Pragle, Alexis Salmon, Alex Schrock, Caleb Suckow, and Cara Swader. The names listed represent candidates screened and approved by the Newstead Town Board. The NRD welcomes returning and new Su. ‘25 Staff!
“Volunteer Service Provider”
Program (VSP)
The VSP provides young adults the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and/or to the ability to fulfill community service hours for: courses (Health, Social Studies, etc.), the National Honor Society (NHS), and college applications. Requirements to participate in the NRD – VSP: Candidates must provide verification of age (Min. 14 years old). Candidates must provide a copy of their own working papers. Candidates must have a signature of parental consent.

The Recreation Department mission reads as follows: “The Town of Newstead Recreation Department is committed to providing residents of the Town of Newstead, Tonawanda Territory, Akron Central School District, and Students of the Akron Central School District with a variety of enjoyable and meaningful physical fitness programs and leisure activities that promote individual development and teamwork in a safe and positive environment.”

For the success and continuous improvement of the Newstead Recreation Department, the essential functional areas of strategic focus include: budget/appropriations, facility/equipment management, organizational development, programs/activities, and publicity/public relations.
