#OneAkron is theme for new school year
#OneAkron, a theme designated for the new 2023-24 academic school year, was clear and present at the opening of Akron Central School last week. While Akron School’s five music teachers performed a rousing instrumental rendition of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” faculty and staff members gathered in the Edward Allen Auditorium on Friday, September 1, for the start of the first of two jam-packed Superintendent’s Conference Days.
Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mrs.Andrea Kersten, welcomed back those employees who enjoyed a summer recess and thanked those staff members who had been active all summer long preparing for the new schoolyear. She spoke about #OneAkron.
“This isn’t just a theme–it’s a mission, a commitment, and a celebration,” she stated.“ #OneAkron is all about celebrating the unity, strength, and diversity of our Akron family. It underscores the importance of collaboration, teamwork, fostering a positive school culture, supporting one another, and being united in our shared mission to provide every student with the best education and school experience possible. We are more than just individuals; we are a unified team, stronger because of each other.
”Kersten shared some personal experiences that underscore the important role each and every faculty and staff member has for the students of the district.
Faculty and staff members were encouraged to wear the #OneAkron t-shirts specially printed for each employee to greet students on the first day of school and demonstrate their unity and the collective commitment to providing students with an exceptional year. With the very hot weather that day, the t-shirts were a welcome uniform especially as most staffers gathered outside after the buses departed for a “family” photo.
Parents and community members can expect to see the hashtag #OneAkron frequently as the district has begun using social media, including a new district Facebook page @AkronCentralSchoolDistrict. Akron Schools is building a digital “scrapbook” of the year’s events and encourages parents, grandparents, and community members to follow and like the postings.
