Portion of East Ave. and Bloomingdale Ave. on County schedule in 2024

Erie County Department of Public Works Commissioner William E. Geary, Jr. has notified Village of Akron that the DPW remains steadfast in their commitment to the residents of Erie County, including the Village of Akron.

“A large part of that commitment involves addressing vital infrastructure needs. We understand that the Village of Akron is currently awaiting grant funding to complete improvements to the Village water and sewer lines under East Avenue. Once that work is complete, the Erie County Department of Public Works will prioritize that section of East Avenue from Exchange Street to Crittenden Road,” Geary wrote.

“Upon learning that the lower portion of East Avenue between Parkview Drive and Exchange Street is not in that scope of work, we will be adding that section to our 2024 Overlay plan. Furthermore, we will also add Bloomingdale Road to next year’s Overlay plan as well. These additions reflect our dedication to maintaining and improving our local roads. Your input and feedback have been invaluable to us, and we will keep you informed as our work progresses. Thank you for your continued support and trust in our efforts to make Akron an even better place to live.”

Village of Akron Mayor Brian Perry, Trustee Peter Forrestel, and Manager of Public Works Jon Cummings met with Geary in Akron last month.

“We visited East Ave. and Bloomingdale Ave. He understands that we are waiting for grant dollars to replace the water and sewer lines on East Ave. and is willing to work with us in phases if necessary,” Perry noted.

“In the meantime, the section of the road from Parkview and Exchange can be milled and repaved next year.  In the meantime, the rest of East Ave. can be patched a little better.  We learned that Bloomingdale needs some culvert work and then can be milled and paved as well.  Jon will be working with Geary’s Deputy Commissioner to patch East Ave. this fall.”
