Raymond (Ray) Smith

Raymond (Ray) Smith went home to be with his Lord and Savior July 2, 2020 following a long illness. He was born in Oneida, New York April11,1934, to the late Clarence and Pauline (Tayntor) Smith.

Ray graduated from Oneida High School in 1952 and continued his education at Houghton College where he graduated in 1956.  His Masters Degree was obtained at Canisius College and he began his teaching career in Leonardsville, NY and then moved his family to Akron where he taught at Pembroke Central School for over thirty years.

Ray was active in the community where he served as treasurer for the Newstead Historical Society, as well as being a member of the Akron Newstead Seniors and the Akron Masonic Lodge.  Many will remember Ray for his income tax business.

Ray leaves behind his wife Nancy of 64 years, as well as four children, Shari (Roy) Kirsch, Shelly (Arden) Meissner, Susan (the late James) Vaillancourt and Scott.  Ray had three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ray was a longtime member of the Akron First United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be held August 21 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception.  Flowers graciously declined. Memorials may be made to Akron First Methodist Church or the Akron Fire Department.
