Request made for peddlers permits in Newstead
The pros and cons of creating a peddlers permit requirement in the Town of Newstead are expected to be part of conversations in upcoming Newstead Town Board meetings.
Supervisor Dawn Izydorczak shared with Board members during their July 14 meeting that the Town Clerk’s office had received several complaints in recent weeks over door-to-door salespeople aggressively selling pest control, driveway sealing, and other products. Residents from the Stage Road area attended Monday’s Board meeting, sharing concerns over solicitors entering their property, even walking into backyards, and their reluctance to respond to requests to leave. A representative of the Erie County Sheriff’s Community Engagement Team shared similar reports in Newstead and neighboring communities. He noted that no trespassing signs are helpful.
Supervisor Izydorczak indicated that the Board is considering the best ways to address those concerns

Akron Celebration Committee Chairperson Kathy Capan appeared before the Town Board to express appreciation for their assistance with securing security and parking assistance for the recent Fourth of July fireworks. Capan noted how significant the help was in achieving safety and security in Veterans Park. She also noted that the boulders were also helpful. “Everyone seemed to follow the rules,” Capan said, adding that additional police presence was helpful as well.
Councilman Edmund Burke noted the “Yeoman’s Service” Capan gives the community as Chair of the Celebration Committee. “It is not an easy task,” Burke said. “It is a team effort,” Capan replied.
Public Hearing
The Board set a Public Hearing on Local Law 2 which addresses a rezoning request for 5725 Davison Road on July 28 at 7:25 p.m. The purpose of the local law is to amend the Zoning Law of the Town of Newstead to rezone the rear portion, consisting of approximately 9.4 acres, of a parcel of land located at 5725 Davison Road, which is presently zoned R-A to a C-2 zoning classification. With the amendment, the entire parcel will be zoned C-2, bringing the current structures into compliance and allowing for the addition of storage units.
