Skyline Park to receive new playground equipment

New playground equipment will be installed in Skyline Park following action by the Newstead Town Board Monday night.

Following several conversations, review of the Town Park Master plan, and exploration of available equipment, the Board accepted a quote from Great Lakes Recreation for a PlayPower set under the Sourcewell contract.  Installation details to follow.

Board members also approved the low quote from Rehwaldt Builders, Inc to repair/rehabilitate the restrooms and kitchen/utility area in the shelter at Veterans Park in the amount of $19,500.

Board members accepted a bid and authorized payment under the Highway Summer Maintenance Bid from Love of Trees LLC to remove eight trees throughout the Town.  A Town Hall transformer that was recently replaced with a new transformer was declared surplus property and will be listed for sale on Auctions International.

Public hearings were set for a short-term rental application for 12353 Clarence Center Road and a home-based business, Bergman Landscaping LLC in the RA zoning district on a 14.9 parcel at 13868 Indian Falls Road on October 28 at 7:15 and 7:20 p.m. respectively. Joshua Kraft was moved to a permanent position on the Zoning oard and Rebecca Baker was appointed as an alternate to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Lateral restriction applications were approved for 6240 Utley Rd, 5090 Havens Rd., 11168 Stage Rod, and 11454 Hiller Rd.  A beer/wine permit was approved for a party at the Cultural Center on 11/3/24 and the listing of Recreation hires for 24-25 fall-winter program was approved.

A Kathryn Drive resident appeared before the Board to express frustration with the condition of the shoulder on his side of the road.  He presented a petition signed by other residents with similar concerns and shared that after numerous attempts to have the shoulder fixed to the level of other town roads it remains a problem.  “I am frustrated with the highway department and the Highway Superintendent,” he told the Board.  Supervisor Dawn Izydorczak shared that following a previous appearance by the resident at a Board meeting she spoke with the Highway Superintendent who indicated that work is scheduled for 2025.  Councilman John Jendrowski indicated he understood the frustration but pointed out that scheduling of the work is at the discretion of the Highway Superintendent and that while the Board can share information they cannot direct how and when he maintains the roads.
