State of Emergency declared in Akron and Newstead
Village of Akron Mayor Carl Patterson and Town of Newstead Supervisor David Cummings have declared States of Emergency in the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead effective at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. A State of Emergency allows them to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
The Akron Village Hall is closed to the public effective Tuesday, March 17 through March 31, 2020. Staff will be working, however transactions will be by phone, mail, online banking, or drop box. More information will be shared as available.
Effective Wednesday, the Newstead Town Hall shut its doors to public foot traffic and implemented reduced hours and reduced staffing. They are asking residents to use the drop box, the mail or online portal to conduct business.
If a resident must come in to conduct business it will be by appointment only. Staff will be working Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the building to process mail and answer phones and address appointments.
The highway department will work their normal 8 hour days but with reduced staff.
Our information at press time is that: The Newstead Town Court is closed for two weeks. Newstead Public Library is closed indefinitely. The Senior Center is closed through March 28.
