State of Emergency extended in Akron and Newstead
Village of Akron Mayor Carl Patterson and Town of Newstead Supervisor David Cummings and have extended States of Emergency in the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead through March 8 and 6 respectively.
The State of Emergency Declarations were signed last week. Both municipalities have been under States of Emergency since March of this year due to the public health crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The continuing health crisis has the potential of threatening or imperiling the public safety of the residents and businesses in the Town and Village and the State of Emergency puts local government and other public safety agencies in a position to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, gave a COVID-19 update on Tuesday.
The confirmed number of cases in the 14001 Zip Code since March of 2020 continued to rise, now 462, up from 451 last week, a slower increase than in recent weeks.
Kowalik reminds local residents they need to continue to be smart and follow the recommendations being sent forth by the local health officials.
