Theory of Relativity set to open on ACS stage
Bursting with originality, “The Theory of Relativity” comes to the Edward Allen Auditorium stage for the first time next week.
Akron Central High School is presenting this musical production described as “highly relatable, filled with a seemingly unrelated collection of songs, scenes and monologues that introduce a compelling array of characters experiencing life’s joys and heartbreaks.” Performances are Friday, March 4, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.
Written by Drama Desk Award nominees Neil Bartram and Brian Hill, this unconventional musical is a joyous and loving look at our surprisingly interconnected lives. Whether you are allergic to cats, in love for the first or tenth time, a child of divorce, a germaphobe or simply a unique individual, audiences are sure to find something with which they will resonate.
Directed by Ms. Debra Hart and Mr. Matthew McHale, and produced by Mrs. Meghen Pitts, “The Theory of Relativity” is a one-act musical (approximately 80-90 minutes) that is for an audience of all ages. Costuming is by Mrs. Laura Taylor and Mr. Christopher Taylor directs the pit orchestra.
All of the characters are considered supporting roles; each has their own story to tell, contributing to the body of work. Tiffany Judge plays Julie and Samantha Kern plays Caroline and Amy; both Judge and Kern are seniors who have participated in Akron’s musicals since sixth grade. Other seniors performing include Connor Brent as Mike, Sean Brennan as Adam, Claudette Hill as Mira, Annie Leeds as Catherine 1, and Kaitlin Pusateri as Catherine 2.
The remaining cast includes Michael Perry as Paul, Oliver is played by Cole Fleming, Ryan is played by Michael Bentley, Anthony is played by Gabe Mekarski, while Jenny is played by Madison Hall.
Sara is played by Kaydence Leone and Autumn Hall plays Person B. Maggie Middaugh, Julianna Rodriguez and Lisa Lin round out the ensemble.
Audience members will delight in tunes such as “I’m Allergic to Cats,” “The End of the Line,” “Relativity,” “Apples & Oranges,” “Promise Me This,” “Footprint” and “Nothing Without You.”
