Tiger Athletes of the Week January 16
The Akron Tiger teams were back at it for a full week of competition following the holiday break! Selected Tiger Athletes of the Week are Elden Ground of the varsity boys swim team and Olivia Novak of the varsity girls basketball team.

Senior Elden Ground is having an exceptional season.
“Elden can swim just about anything across the board,” said Coach Andrea Toussaint. “His goal this year is to swim every event before he graduates from high school!”
Thus far, he has swum the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Butterfly and has successfully met the qualifying time for the Class C meet in the 50 Free, 100 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly.
“Besides the great times that Elden has achieved this season, he’s been a great teammate,” remarked Coach Toussaint. “He has formed meaningful relationships with a few of the younger swimmers on the team. Elden is able to balance box lacrosse, swimming and his schoolwork, always showing up and putting in the time not only for himself, but for his team. Congratulations, Elden – you will definitely be missed next year!”

Also selected Tiger Athlete of the Week is Olivia Novak of the Lady Tigers basketball team. Olivia is enjoying her second year on the varsity team and has moved to the starting line-up the last three games.
“Olivia has been one of our rebounding machines!” said Coach Antoinette Abrams.
During the team’s recent 66-36 win over Roy-Hart, Olivia had 17 rebounds – the team’s season high for rebounds. She also added 15 points to her impressive stats.
Olivia has phenomenal moves to get around her defenders to create space to go to the hoop!” said Coach Abrams, whose team is 5-0 thus far. “With her leadership skills and ability to overcome adversity, Olivia will be an asset as we work to improve our record. We’ll be counting on her to score more points and she’ll certainly be one of the ‘fires’ we’ll need to continue our winning season. Good job, Olivia – and keep up the good work!”
