Tom Gesel

Tom Gesel, born April 13, 1957, peacefully passed away at his home in Akron, New York, on October 2024. A dedicated resident of the Akron area for 27 years, he was the son of Mary Rae and Joseph Gesel from Williamsville.

In his youth, Tom enjoyed helping his father at the family car lot and was active in the family business, Gesel’s Furniture, which he later took over as The Assortment. He was also passionate about racing, becoming one-third of the Gesel Brothers Racing alongside his father and brother Peter. A highlight of his racing career was winning the First Annual National Parts Peddler Championship at Pocono Raceway in 1981.

In 1997, Tom married his beloved wife Michelle, and they welcomed their daughter, Jenna Rae, in 1998. Tom took great joy in teaching Jenna various skills, from operating heavy machinery to refinishing furniture.

Tom is predeceased by his mother, Mary Rae Gesel; his father, Joseph Gesel; and his sister, Mary Grace Gesel. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Gesel; his sister, Kathleen Gesel; his brother, Peter Gesel; and his cherished daughter, Jenna Rae Gesel-Cleversley (Zach).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Church in East Aurora, care of Dr. Rev. Alberto Lanzot, to Hospice Buffalo or to Akron Lions Club.

The Gesel Family will be receiving relatives and friends at Main Transit Fire Hall, 6777 Main St Williamsville on November 6th at 10 a.m.
