Town and Village reinstate State of Emergency
Both the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron have re-issued a State of Emergency for thirty days due to the public health crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in 14001 have recently averaged 40 per week, although numbers released this week showed a down tick with 17 in the last seven days, up to 1021 since March.
The continuing health crisis has the potential of threatening or imperiling the public safety of the residents and businesses in the Town and Village and the State of Emergency puts local government and other public safety agencies in a position to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
Nothing changes for the general public at this time as there are no new rules or guidelines in place per ECHD or NYSHD, although some businesses are tightening down on masks and other precautions.
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik strongly recommends residents wear a mask inside public places whether vaccinated or not.
