Travel Advisories in place

Erie County Executive Poloncarz issued a State of Emergency at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2024.

There is currently a TRAVEL ADVISORY. No unnecessary travel is recommended.

Effective 9 p.m. tonight (Saturday), there will be a TRAVEL BAN in effect for all of Erie County.

For travel conditions, road closures, shelter information, or any other storm related questions, please call 716-858-SNOW (7669).

Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia is encouraging all to stay safe and smart during this storm event and appreciated the NFL decision to reschedule the Bills game.

“I would like to thank the National Football League for its prudent decision to postpone the AFC Wild Card game between the Bills and Steelers. A playoff game in Orchard Park should be a happy occasion, not a life-threatening one. There is no need to put fans and staff at risk.

“Further, this postponement will free up potentially life-saving personnel and
equipment that would have otherwise been assigned to Highmark Stadium on Sunday.

“I urge everybody to be smart and safe over the next few days. We are looking forward to Monday afternoon’s 4:30 kickoff.”

In Genesee County, New York

In anticipation of the severe weather conditions that are predicted to begin this
evening, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Genesee
County Highway Department, Emergency Management Services, and the County
Manager, issued a travel advisory for all of Genesee County effective this
evening until further notice.

Sheriff Sheron encourages residents, “For your safety and the safety of first
responders and highway snow removal personnel this weekend, please stay off the
roads until conditions improve.”

Motorists are encouraged to avoid all unnecessary travel due to the expected strong winds, heavy snow and sub-zero visibility. These conditions will undoubtedly create treacherous travel for all motorists.

During a travel advisory roads are not closed, however, no unnecessary travel is
advised. A trip which could wait should not be made until the advisory is lifted.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office does not determine the necessity for any
individual to report to work.
