Twenty-one new COVID-19 cases confirmed

Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, gave a COVID-19 update on Tuesday.

The confirmed number of cases in the 14001 Zip Code since March of 2020 continued to rise, now 514, up 21 from 493 last week and another slight uptick in new weekly cases over the past few weeks.

Kowalik reminds local residents they need to continue to be smart and follow the recommendations being sent forth by the local health officials.

States of Emergency continue in the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead through March 8 and 6 respectively.

The State of Emergency Declarations were signed last month. Both municipalities have been under States of Emergency since March of this year due to the public health crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The continuing health crisis has the potential of threatening or imperiling the public safety of the residents and businesses in the Town and Village and the State of Emergency puts local government and other public safety agencies in a position to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
