ACS names Tiger Athletes of the Week

The 2021-22 Winter sport season is quickly winding down with some teams having completed their league championship meet.  Selected Tiger Athletes of the Week are two Tigersharks, Shea Masse from the girls team and Aiden Polkowski from the boys, who excelled at the Niagara-Orleans League Championships, bringing home the blue ribbon and league patch.

Shea Masse, a senior team captain, took first place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:09.02 and the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:12.54.  To add to her individual wins, Shea also swam the first leg, backstroke, of the 200 Medley Relay to a first place finish with her teammates Mayah Harris, Kaila Szczygielski and Emma Corbett.

“I have had the opportunity to coach Shea for the past four years and she has grown so much,” said Coach Danielle Dembrow.  “She has realized her own ability in the pool and understands the potential she has.  She is a confident swimmer.  Shea leads by example and is a great role model to the younger swimmers around her. Congratulations!”

Earning the blue ribbon and league patch for the boys is Aiden Polkowski, a junior on the Tigersharks team.  Polkowski took first place in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:18.58.  Aiden also picked up a fourth place ribbon in the 100 Butterfly.

The 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay, of which Aiden swims a leg, qualified for the sectional meet to be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at City Honors.

The boys team took third place overall at the league meet.

“Aiden is a hard worker and a great teammate,” commented Coach Mark Fragale.  “He is always cheering on his teammates and encouraging them to be the best they can be.  Great job, Aiden!”
