ACS prepares for Modified Swim, Winter high risk sports – Registration due February 1
Section VI Athletics has announced the authorization for the start of high-risk sports for the Winter sport season for the 2021-21 school year. Registration is currently open for those wishing to participate in modified swimming.
Registration for girls and boys varsity, junior varsity or modified basketball, competitive cheer, and wrestling will soon be determined, but information was not complete at press time. Interested participants should check the school’s athletic website at www.akronschools.org/athletics for up-to-date information. Practice dates and times for all sports will listed on the website as soon as they become available as well.
Registration for Winter sports teams is an online process through the Parent Portal. Online registration is now open and MUST be completed February 1, 2021 for all participants.
Parents of sports participants must register their child for athletics using the Parent Portal they are accustomed to using to retrieve student report cards and other school related information. However, please be aware that the sports registration process cannot be completed using the PowerSchool mobile app and must be accessed using the parent’s credentials, not the student’s. Paper athletic registration forms are available for those who do not have access to the internet. Please call the Athletic Office at (716)542-5088 to arrange to receive paper forms.
A link to the Parent Portal is available at the upper right corner of the school’s website at www.akronschools.org. Once logged in to the Portal, click the “Athletic Registration” tab on the left side of the opening page. Follow the steps to complete the registration and print the mandatory Interval Health History for Athletics form, the athletic agreement/consent form, and transportation permission form. Both the parent and the student athlete must sign the athletic agreement/consent form. Completed forms should be brought to the coach on the first day of practice or earlier.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York State Department of Education has announced that student-athletes for the Winter sports season will be allowed to participate without taking an updated physical, provided they had a health examination in 2018 or 2019 that is on file with the school Health Office. Students who did not have a health examination in 2018 or 2019 must take a physical before being allowed to participate in winter sports.
Sports physical forms should be submitted to the high school nurse in the MS/HS Health Office located in room E-106 via FAX at (716)542-5057 or via USPS to: Health Office, Akron Schools, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, NY 14001
