Parents continue to ask for mask mandate to be lifted

Thanking the Akron Central School Board of Education for their letter to the State regarding lifting of mask mandates several parents reiterated their position that the mask mandate be lifted at Akron regardless of the state, during the June 23 Board of Education meeting.  They cited physical and mental health concerns for children, in urging the board to take action.  Parents had appeared at the previous Board meeting with similar concerns.

Fireworks, parade on schedule for Akron Fourth of July

The Akron Celebration Committee is finalizing plans for the 2021 Akron Fourth of July Celebration. In a preview released this week plans include: July 3rd Fireworks at dusk in Veterans Park. July 4th Power Wheels Race on Main Street at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Soapbox Derby at 11:00 a.m. Chicken Barbecue 11:00 a.m. in Russell Park along with additional food stands. Wolcottsville Wildlife will be in Russell Park as well as Face Painting.  The Kiddie parade begins at 4:15 p.m. with a Pirates and Mermaids theme. COVID-19 vaccinations available

A COVID-19 mobile site opened this afternoon in the Village of Akron. The Erie County Department of Health Mobile Unit is at Akron Village Hall today until 6 p.m. administering first dose Pfizer Shots for ages 16 plus. Register at Tinyurl.com/Akron0505, or call 858-2929. J&J vaccinations are available at the Akron Pharmacy, Main Street, Akron. Call them for appointment information 542-6300. There are still some openings for this Friday, and for upcoming weeks.

Help sought in identifying subject

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the subject pictured below.  The subject has been developed as a person of interest in relation to a property crime being investigated in the Town of Alabama.  The subject appears to have a tattoo on his right forearm.  If you have any information, we urge you to please contact Investigator Ryan DeLong at 585-345-3000 ext. 3572.
