Akron Community Band will feature Classic Broadway on July 11 as they present their third of eight concerts in the Russell Park gazebo, Main Street, Akron. The concert begins at 8 p.m. under the direction of Holly Meides and Karlyn Backus, with a variety of “band favorite’ selections. All are invited to come enjoy a summer evening in Russell Park, which now has an upgraded, more easily accessible amphitheater.  There will be refreshments for sale in the refreshment stand. Road closures for the Fourth of July

For the July 4th Celebration. Main St will be closed with NO PARKING 7am-7pm from Buffalo St to Church St. The Parade route of Bloomingdale Ave to Townsend St to Main St to Monroe St will be restricted NO PARKING from 2pm -7pm . The parade route will be closed and shut down to traffic by 4 p.m. Also parking will be restricted to one side of John St, Clinton St, Marshall Ave and Hoag Ave.

ACS Middle School students do well at Music Festival

MUSIC FESTIVAL – the Akron Central Middle School Music Department got to celebrate a year of hard work by participating in the Darien Lake Music Festival earlier this month.  The 6th Grade Band, 7th/8th Grade Band, Middle School Orchestra, and Middle School Chorus ensembles spent the morning performing three selections each for a judge in order to receive a score. This competition was the largest attended competition of the season with over 88 ensembles competing throughout the day. All of Akron’s music ensembles received a 97 or higher and additionally, all three instrumental ensembles placed in their respective age/ensemble categories

White Whiskers Senior Sanctuary ribbon cutting

RIBBON CUTTING – Village of Akron Mayor Brian Perry and founder Polla Milligan officially cut the ribbon opening White Whiskers Senior Sanctuary on Lewis Road, Akron.  The labor of love for Milligan and many volunteers created this unique kennel free dog shelter in Western New York. Their goal is to create a space to ease the stress that senior dogs experience when they lose their homes and families by providing a compassionate option to live out their years in safety, comfort, and peace.
