Akron Central names Athletes of the Week
The Akron Tigersharks completed their second week of competition. Selected Tiger Athletes of the Week are Zander Borton from the boys’ swim team and Rachel PeQueen from the girls’ swim team.

Tigersharks swimming well in season openers
Akron Varsity Tigersharks kicked off their season with strong swims against Medina and Newfane. The Girls winning the January 28 meet against Medina 106-61 and the Boys earning 61 points to Medina’s 108. In their meet with Newfane both the boys and girls scored wins: Girls 111-57 and Boys 83-69.

ACS begins search for new Director of Educational Services Akron Central School began a search for a new Director of Educational Services this week, following the resignation of Dr. Taweepon Farrar who has accepted a position as the new superintendent for West Valley Central School District in Cattaraugus County.

The Akron Central High School winter sports season for the 2020-21 school year has finally begun! The Akron Tigersharks are back in the pool and the first sport to begin competing, albeit in the most unusual way. Each team holds events in their home pool as simultaneously as possible and times are shared to determine race winners, places and overall meet winners. A referee is present at each school pool.

ACS prepares for Modified Swim, Winter high risk sports – Registration due February 1
Section VI Athletics has announced the authorization for the start of high-risk sports for the Winter sport season for the 2021-21 school year. Registration is currently open for those wishing to participate in modified swimming.

Newstead confirmed COVID-19 cases now at 200
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, shared Monday that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 14001 zip code continued to rise over the past week, adding another 40 since his last update, bringing the total to 200 positive since March, slightly lower than the rise in cases reported in the previous seven days.
