Modern Disposal has canceled Garbage pick-up for Friday, November 18, 2022 in Akron and Newstead due to the pending snow storm. The next garbage pick-up is scheduled for Saturday November 26, 2022. The Akron Police Department has issued a reminder that winter parking restrictions are currently in effect. From November 1 to April 1 there is no overnight parking on village streets. Vehicles will be ticketed and/or towed. The regulation allows for safe and timely snow removal by highway crews and everyone’s cooperation is appreciated.

Musicians from fifty-two school districts as well as 130 teachers representing the four counties of Western New York will descend upon Akron Central School as it once again hosts the 2022 New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Junior High Area All State Music Festival on November 4th and 5th. Akron Central Student representatives from the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools appeared at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday, October 19 to say “thank you” for their support. They brought cards signed by students, performed a musical selection, and were featured in a video recognizing the Board for their efforts on behalf of the entire district. The West Shore Farmers Market is watching the weather, and planning to continue into October on a week to week basis. The market, which began in 2021 at the corner of Cedar & Eckerson. is now located in Russell Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays.
