Community is focus of ‘Light up Akron!’

Community is the focus of the annual ‘Light Up Akron!” event set for this Saturday, December 9.  The community is coming together to celebrate the holiday season with music, food, opportunities to find that special gift for loved ones and for those you may never meet but who need a little something to bring them cheer, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and Lights.  Organizers hope the community will light up their homes, adding to lights already on Main Street and in Russell Park.

#OneAkron is theme for new school year

#OneAkron, a theme designated for the new 2023-24 academic school year, was clear and present at the opening of Akron Central School last week. While Akron School’s five music teachers performed a rousing instrumental rendition of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” faculty and staff members gathered in the Edward Allen Auditorium on Friday, September 1, for the start of the first of two jam-packed Superintendent’s Conference Days. Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mrs.Andrea Kersten, welcomed back those employees who enjoyed a summer recess and thanked those staff members who had been active all summer long preparing for the new schoolyear.
