Parents continue to ask for mask mandate to be lifted

Thanking the Akron Central School Board of Education for their letter to the State regarding lifting of mask mandates several parents reiterated their position that the mask mandate be lifted at Akron regardless of the state, during the June 23 Board of Education meeting.  They cited physical and mental health concerns for children, in urging the board to take action.  Parents had appeared at the previous Board meeting with similar concerns.

Akron Community Band presents concert this Friday

Akron Community Band (ACB) will present their second concert of the 2021 season in the Russell Park Gazebo, Main Street, Akron at 8 p.m. under the direction of Holly Meides and Karlyn Backus.  Concerts continue each Friday night through August 13. Underway are plans for the July 23 Christmas in July concert.  All are invited to get your Christmas ideas for the annual audience Christmas display contest ready.  More details soon. Garbage Pickup Schedule remains Friday

The Village of Akron has issued a reminder that Garbage Pickup remains on its regular Friday pickup this week. There may be confusion because of the Fourth of July holiday, so the reminder was issued. That schedule is also in effect for the Town of Newstead. Recycling for those areas scheduled for this week is also Friday.
