The West Shore Farmers Market is watching the weather, and planning to continue into October on a week to week basis. The market, which began in 2021 at the corner of Cedar & Eckerson. is now located in Russell Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. Vendors offer produce, baked goods, home decor, clothing and a variety of hand-crafted items.

The Town of Newstead Bi-Centennial Committee continues to work on plans for the 2023 observance. Although 2023 seems a long way off, it takes many months to plan a huge celebration. Akron Central School will maintain its single point of entry to the building for the new school year beginning September 6, 2022, the opening day of school for 2022-23. The Board of Education and the Safety Committee have implemented a system for visitors to the District between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. School Security Officers (SSO) will continue to facilitate the program.
