The Town of Newstead Bi-Centennial Committee continues to work on plans for the 2023 observance. Although 2023 seems a long way off, it takes many months to plan a huge celebration. The bicentennial committee has tentative plans for a scavenger hunt, children’s activities, garden walk, cruise night/taste of Akron, Native American day, and many varied activities. They welcome your participation in this planning.

Akron-Newstead Community Education has announced its year-long offerings which include use of the ACS Fitness Center and Hall Walking. The programs run from September 6, 2022 through June 16, 2023.

Akron Central School will maintain its single point of entry to the building for the new school year beginning September 6, 2022, the opening day of school for 2022-23. The Board of Education and the Safety Committee have implemented a system for visitors to the District between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. School Security Officers (SSO) will continue to facilitate the program.

Governor Kathy Hochul and Town of Newstead Supervisor David L. Cummings were among state and local officials who celebrated the commissioning of Western New York’s newest large-scale electric transmission line, Empire State Line on Monday morning. Governor Hochul spoke on the importance of clean energy. The new 20-mile 345 kilovolt line runs through the Town of Newstead and connects the new Dysinger switchyard in Royalton, NY with the new East Stolle switchyard in Elma, NY.
