Akron Central joins other districts in asking Governor to change COVID-related restrictions

COVID-19 test kits available for Village of Akron and Town of Newstead residents
Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Emergency Manager Daniel Kowalik has announced that Local Emergency Managers will be distributing Rapid COVID 19 Test Kits to Village of Akron and Town of Newstead pick-up sites for residents while supplies last. This is will be a walk-in distribution and NOT a drive through one.

Garbage pick-up delayed
All trash routes in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron are delayed this week. Friday routes are pushed to Saturday. Joseph M. Hickman Strategic/Municipal Sales Manager said, “With the current spike around our community and country of COVID-19 cases, we may experience service delays in your area. The safety of our employees and our customers is our highest priority, and we are working to ensure you are serviced as close to the expected service date as possible. Friday routes may push to Saturday, please leave garbage out if it is not collected on Friday. “

Kearns warns motorists of new text messaging scam
Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns is alerting residents about a new text message phishing scheme that is circulating across Erie County. The text messages include a link that claims to direct consumers to a page that will provide information of overpayment to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV). The link then prompts individuals to confirm their email in an embedded link in order to acquire a refund.

The Newstead Public Library has COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests available. Area residents are invited to pick up while supplies last.
