Newstead sees largest increase in COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

COVID-19 updates on September 9 indicated confirmed new cases in the 14001 zip code, stood at 21, the largest weekly increase since the pandemic began. The confirmed number of new weekly cases in the 14001 Zip Code is now a total of 756 since March 2020. Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, said that as of September 8, 64.5 percent in this community are vaccinated, up from 64.2 percent September 3.

Akron Community Band presents concert this Friday

Akron Community Band (ACB) will present their second concert of the 2021 season in the Russell Park Gazebo, Main Street, Akron at 8 p.m. under the direction of Holly Meides and Karlyn Backus.  Concerts continue each Friday night through August 13. Underway are plans for the July 23 Christmas in July concert.  All are invited to get your Christmas ideas for the annual audience Christmas display contest ready.  More details soon. Fireworks, parade on schedule for Akron Fourth of July

The Akron Celebration Committee is finalizing plans for the 2021 Akron Fourth of July Celebration. In a preview released this week plans include: July 3rd Fireworks at dusk in Veterans Park. July 4th Power Wheels Race on Main Street at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Soapbox Derby at 11:00 a.m. Chicken Barbecue 11:00 a.m. in Russell Park along with additional food stands. Wolcottsville Wildlife will be in Russell Park as well as Face Painting.  The Kiddie parade begins at 4:15 p.m. with a Pirates and Mermaids theme.
