The Akron Lions Club new program, Avenue of Flags, which offers residents with an opportunity to express their patriotism while supporting the local community was well received for Memorial Day. Flags flying throughout the Village of Akron greeted those arriving for Memorial Day observances as well as those walking, biking, and driving through the community.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting American women the right to vote. A COVID-19 mobile site opened this afternoon in the Village of Akron. The Erie County Department of Health Mobile Unit is at Akron Village Hall today until 6 p.m. administering first dose Pfizer Shots for ages 16 plus. Register at Tinyurl.com/Akron0505, or call 858-2929. J&J vaccinations are available at the Akron Pharmacy, Main Street, Akron. Call them for appointment information 542-6300. There are still some openings for this Friday, and for upcoming weeks.

Read moreOne Driver killed Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the Crash Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of a fatal crash on April 22. The three-vehicle crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Maple Road near Koepsel Road in the Town of Newstead. An operator of one of the vehicles was killed in the incident, and the drivers of the other vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Additional information about the drivers is not available at the time of this release. The crash unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
